People of the territory

The Lickanantay, also known as Atacameño, have lived around the Salar de Atacama for millennia, farming the oases with water channels that are still in use. Many of the places you will visit, from Laguna Chaxa to the Puritama springs, are managed by local communities.

Visiting well

Entry fees go to the communities that look after each site. Ask before photographing people. Buy from the village markets, not the airport.
