Layers, not luggage

A down jacket, a fleece, a windproof shell and a sun shirt cover every day of every journey. The lodge lends hats, gloves and down jackets if you would rather travel light.

Sun and dry air

The UV index at altitude is routinely above 11. Bring a wide hat, category-4 sunglasses and a strong lip balm. The air is so dry that a small bottle of saline nasal spray is the most useful thing in the bag.

Leave behind

Anything heavy. Every road here is dust, and the lodge does laundry every day.
